Hip Abduction w/ External Rotation

Description

Hip abduction w/ external rotation shows the ability of the hip to abduct and externaly rotate, which is essential for hip function and gives an indication of abductor muscle activation.

To perform this assessment:

  1. From a lying position, move left leg out about 30-degrees (abduction)
  2. Rotate left foot/knee outward as far as possible and hold for a second
  3. Repeat on right side and compare the motion between sides
