Shoulder Horizontal Adduction

Description

Shoulder horizontal adduction shows the ability of the shoulder to move anteriorly-horizontally across the body, which gives an indication of anterior shoulder muscle activation.

To perform this assessment:

  1. From a lying position, raise one arm up perpendicular with the floor, retract the shoulder blade and internally rotate hand (turn thumb down)
  2. Bring arm across the body as far as possible without moving the shoulder blade
  3. Compare the motion between sides
